No item/laucher in application menu after a new application intallation

Bug Description
After installing an application with a standard method (in my case Thunderbird, through the software center), there is no Thunderbird item in the Application menu.
Note that the item "Thunderbird" is present in Sys > Prefs > Main menu, and adequately checked/ticked. Un-checking and re-checking that menu entry solves the problem, but that manipulation should not be necessary.
