Bug Description

I use Bible Analyzer with English and Hebrew Bibles. Under UM 17.10 the Hebrew Bibles display right-to-left beautifully. When I upgraded to UM 18.04 and set the language stuff the Hebrew Bibles no longer display right-to-left but only left-to-right. I had to revert back to 17.10. The problem appears to be something in Ubuntu 18.04. Can someone look at this and fix it? Thanks!

Hello, I cannot find a package for Bible Analyzer. Is this in the archives somewhere by a different name?

Hello,

Not sure of the archives. You can download it here:
http://www.bibleanalyzer.com/download.htm. Grab the Ubuntu deb file. It
will install everything it needs  in a full install, virtualbox or USB
stick.

Not sure if you downloaded the deb file. Here is a small piece of code that shows how Hebrew displays in UM 17.10. I have attached the file.

Do we have anything happening yet? I know the issue lies somewhere in Ubuntu 18.04.

Does this happen for you using other desktop environments or just with MATE? If so, you might want to mark this as affecting the general Ubuntu instead. Also, have you tried reaching out to the developers of this package?

Hello,

Yes I have reached out to the developer and have identified the issue as
Ubuntu 18.04. I have tested Bible Analyzer in Ubuntu Mate 18.04, Linux
Mint 19 and Peppermint OS9, all of which are now based on Ubuntu 18.04.
Linux Mint 18.3, Peppermint OS8 and Ubuntu Mate 17.10 all play
beautifully. Peppermint uses an XFCE.

No I mean other flavors of Ubuntu 18.04 (GNOME, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, etc.) - just trying to figure out whether this is specific to Ubuntu MATE, or whether it affects other *buntus

So far the only non Mate I have tried is Peppermint OS8 which is based
from XFCE. Have you installed Bible Analyzer and looked at the Hebrew
display in UM 18,04 yet? Just curious.

So has there been any action here? The issue is there with any distro using Ubuntu 18.04 as its base. If you install Bible Analyzer from the link given earlier, install the WLCi Bible from the free modules then you can replicate the problem.

I have been told it is an "upstream" issue, but I am just a user and I don't understand what that means nor how to address it. All I know is Bible Analyzer played beautifully before distros started using Ubuntu 18.04 as its base. I have tested and had the same results on UM 18.04, Linux Mint 19 (Mate and XFCE), Peppermint OS 9 Can someone help me?

You can also download the sample code I attached earlier, execute it with python2 (in UM 18.04) and it will display left-to-right. If you ran it in UM 17:10 it displays right-to-left as it should.

Third issue is for a third-party package. Moving out of ubuntu-mate.
