Clock applet (calendar) pop-up doesn't close

Bug Description
System: Linux 4.14.18-
Version: Mate 1.20 (reproducible on all versions and distributions)
Steps to reproduce:
1. Click on Clock applet, calendar window will pop-up.
2. Click outside of calendar pop-up window.
3. Pop-up stays open.
4. Click on Clock applet second time - only then calendar pop-up window closes.
Expected behaviour:
Calendar pop-up window should close automatically on losing focus.

I believe that this behaviour is a feature. At least I'm using it as such. For example: It helps me to keep track what day of the week is date X while I'm typing in the chat/email/ spreadsheet.
