Bug Description

After upgrading from 17.04 with amdgpu-pro drivers 17.35 I couldn't reach the login screen and also not get to the tty controller. I could however login through ssh.

Once there I figured out that there is a problem with the compatibility between amdgpu-pro and 17.10 update.

I uninstalled the amdgpu-pro driver and rebooted, lightdm works again and I can login in. After installing the latest version of the amdgpu-pro drivers 17.40 the problem reappeared.

I have attached the journalctl output and the system used:

intel skylake i3-6300 with a amd rx560 installed

I thought the AMD GPU Pro divers were only support on Ubuntu 16.04.3?

They worked perfectly fine in 17.04 but indeed officially they are only supported for LTS releases. Still I do think it could be worth looking into as they worked perfectly fine in 17.04 release.
However I do understand if ubuntu mate is not interested to look into it as it is officially only supported for LTS.
