Steam launcher keeps crashing

I just installed steam on Ubuntu Mate 17.10 via Software Boutique, ran it for the first time, let it download all the updates and after it finished downloading it just crashed.
Now when i try to run Steam from start menu it won't even start, nothing happens.
After i tried uninstalling it in Software Boutique again it failed to remove.
This happened on 17.04. also, i have no idea why.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

This sounds like the steam binary itself has crashed and is not related to the packaging. I am going to mark the bug as incomplete, please provide more details to the crash and confirm that it still happens on recent versions of Ubuntu.
