Bug Description

Ubuntu Mate 17.10

Fresh install of the latest OS and the Focaltech touchpad right click doesn't work on my Asus laptop. Right click OK on Logitech mouse, but obviously very inconvenient with no right click on touchpad.

AFAIK 17.10 is the first release to use the libinput touchpad driver by default and drop the synaptics driver, but synaptics stills works if you install it (or upgrade from an install that had it like my current system). So try installing synaptics

    sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

and reboot.

Thanks for your advice. I'll try installing the synaptics driver.

I have taken Alexander's advice above and installed the Synaptics driver. Pleased to say this has fixed the right click problem with the Focaltech touchpad.

This does mean the libinput touchpad driver is broken and this bug needs to stay open until that is fixed. Thanks.

Same thing on Dell Inspiron 5548 touchpad -- right click button does not work on Ubuntu Mate 17.10.
I tried the pure Ubuntu 17.10 and there is no problem with that.

Adding sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics helps.

IIRC GNOME *only* supports libinput now, so Ubuntu (Desktop/Gnome) 17.10 must be using it, not Synaptics. So that makes it seem like this issue is with MATE's support for libinput, not libinput itself.
