Bug Description

On fresh installation of Ubuntu Mate final beta, caja (and gnome-disks) fail to decrypt additional drive on machine which is encrypted with LUKS on LVM. Initial error reports cryptsetup not installed, however after installation, error report is "cannot read drive, unknown file system." The filesystem is a Debian install with ext4 on LVM on LUKS.
Installing cryptsetup and LVM2 fixes issue.

This bug seems to be Ubuntu mate specific, as it works on standard Ubuntu final beta with nautilus.

steps to reproduce: try to open LVM on LUKS encrypted drive

steps to solve: install cryptsetup and LVM2.

As additional bug, (obviously) the installer does not offer option to encrypt drive, only home directory.

This works for me. After installing cryptsetup, clicking the encrypted drive in Caja brings up the password dialog and the disk is properly mounted. I never installed Beta 2, but both Beta 1 and the 17.10 final release worked fine here.

However, like you say, it requires installation of additional packages (cryptsetup is sufficient in my case). Whether this package should be included in the default Ubuntu MATE installation may be something for the developers to consider.
