Bug Description

I have upgraded 17.04 to 17.10 Ubuntu Mate.

The graphic is broken as shown below.

Partial screen (1/6 right) working correctly.

recovery mode is working fine.

I found 4.13.0-12-generic and 4.13.0-11-generic kernel has broken graphics.

In recovery mode, I could select 800x600 only.

The correct resolution is 1024x600 for my EeePC, but this resolution is broken.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1720703/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

This screenshot shows an X session, so is definitely not a Plymouth bug.

Desktop graphics completely broken after update of mate-core and mate-desktop.

The graphic was black screen and shows "X" mouse cursor only.

I can confirm this issue. Happening to me with Kubuntu after upgrading.

To me it seems clearly due to the 4.13 kernel's Intel graphics driver. If I switch to the old 4.10 kernel, everything works fine.

This bug is identical to bug #1724639

@Mods please merge the two bug-reports.
Morever, also other Linux distros confirm that there is a problem with the Intel Mobile Graphics and Kernel 4.13, e.g. Opensuse :
