Bug Description

I've got a system76 Gazelle Pro with a Haswell i7-4700MQ CPU. Under both UM 17.10b and 17.04, my laptop doesn't reboot after the UM installer has finished. Instead, the screen just goes black and nothing happens, forcing me to power cycle it.

The install goes fine otherwise and UM boots up fine after killing it at the end of the installation process.

I've just installed UM1710b under KVM and it has cleared up a couple of things.

When I say my screen went black after the installer had finished, I should've been seeing the 'Remove your installation media and push ENTER to reboot' screen. It was interesting to note this screen was shown under KVM after the installer had finished but the UM logo above this message is garbled with incorrect colours etc so there does seem to be an issue with displaying that 'Push ENTER to reboot' screen.

I was unable to get the UM installer / X to start under KVM without changing the default video adapter from QXL to Cirrus. After installation, UM/KVM is happy for me to switch it back to QXL.

The good news is it seems that this reboot prob is specific to the kernel used with the current 1710 UM beta installer because UM fails to reboot after it has been installed until you do an apt upgrade, after which rebooting works properly.
