Bug Description

After Ubuntu installed and updated, i installed Kodi from repos. Kodi don't start, it returns to desktop after show a black screen, and a kodi crash log file is written in home directory.

I tried that at least on three different Ubuntu installations. Kodi under Raspbian does work.

Tested on a RPi3 card.

Yes. The previous installations was from NOOBS images, but just finish try the official one, without the Raspberry bootloader, and the issue remains.
This crash log is from this last installation, the others isn't availables anymore.

So first of all this is a raspberry pi 3 instalation?
Second i dont think that kodi from the ubuntu repos is for raspberry pi 3.
Please try this and tell me if this works https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=124572

But i do not interested on buld Kodi Krypton. I do not like it, better the previous v.16.x. I've tested Krypton on a Archlinux-arm installation with Mate on other sdcard. It run more fast that Ubuntu Mate, but i don't use it because the Kodi version from Arch repos is that. For me, Krypton is less usefull than Jarvis, at least at this moment (especially bright and contrast video controls, subtitles configuration, etc)
Anyway, i will investigate the compilation method, and if is possible to compile Kodi Jarvis for the RPi3.

Forgive my bad english. Thank you.

This https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-pi-flavour-makers/+archive/ubuntu/kodi-pi WORK!
But the exit isn't clean, it don't return to Desktop. As workaround, it's necessary press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and after Ctrl+Alt+F7 to return to Desktop.
For all that, the Kodi version is that i looking for.
Greetings!

From what i did see on ubuntu launchpad kodi is only for amd64 and i386 and not for arm, thats whay thy made another ppa special for arm procesors architecture.
Soo the oficial ubuntu repo doesn't have a build for arm so thats why you get that error because its for another architecture.

Non, the launchpad repo is for RPi 2 & 3, read the complete link direction (kodi-pi) or take a look of the page. The link is from the 2nd you wrote (#5), 2nd post, Wimpy says "I made a PPA for Kodi on the Pi 2 and 3 a while back. I'd be interested in feedback...".

Moreover, the version isn't the final Jarvis. Maybe for that it is inestable. It hangs sometimes... But it's functional for home use.

Thanks for show me this solution, indirectly.

I must to test the Krypton version more deeply. From my Arch installed image, it seems work fine. Possibly i will compile it on Ubuntu, lately.

Regards...

when you are doing $sudo apt-get install kodi it's from oficial repo
i know that ppa and that it's made by Martin.
But the main problem was that you did try to install kodi like $sudo apt-get install kodi where there it's mot a arm arhitecure of the app...
