Unable to remove the VLC player from the file type association

Bug Description
In the avi file properties on the "Open WIth" tab, selecting the "VLC media player" and clicking the "-Remove" button can't remove the VLC player. However this works for any other program.

Unable to reproduce this locally on Ubuntu Mate 17.10. I right-clcked on an AVI, selected "File Properties -> Open With". Highlighted "VLC media player" then clicked "-Remove". The association was removed and persisted across several Caja sessions.
