Bug Description

Workspace switcher applet always displays 4 workspaces. The "number of workspaces" settings do not work. Whatever value you choose, the applet always displays 4 workspaces in a row.

Tested with Ubuntu Mate 15.10 and german language "Arbeitsflächenumschalter 1.10.1"

I changed the language settings to English: same behaviour with "Workspace Switcher 1.10.1"
- changing number of rows works
- changing the number of workspaces has no effect. After reopening the preference window always the value 1 is displayed. The applet displays 4 workspaces.
I have the same behaviour with a 32bit installation on an old IBM thinkpad and a 64bit Fujitsu machine

I am affected by this bug to on Ubuntu Mate 16.04 LTS.
Please test in combination with activated compiz affects.
After switching to compiz It was not possible to change the number of wokspaces.
-The actual number of workspaces always stays at 4, but shows number 1 when looking in the panel Setting.
-Resetting the compiz settings did not help

After switching back to marco It was possible to change the value of workspaces but when switching again to compiz the number is 4 again.

When compiz is in use the number of workspaces on the Mate Desktop can be set via the compiz config settings manager.
General options-> Display size
From a Desktop users point of view setting the number of workspaces should be possible both from the Gnome panel and also from compiz. The current behaviour is insufficient.
The compiz config settings manager can be started from the terminal via typing ccsm.

I can confirm Peter Bauers findings. Same behaviour on my machine.
When using Marco the possible to define the number of workspaces in the mate desktop switcher.
When using Compiz the mate desktop switcher always displays 4 desktops. It's only possible to change the number in the compiz config settings manager.
