Bug Description

Booting from DVD, Ubuntu Mate 15.04 PPC stops at boot prompt. Selecting "live" or other boot options passes through white screen and gets to black screen with:

[19.792221] i2c i2c-3: i2c-powermac: modalias failure on /uni-n@f8000000/i2c@f8001000/cereal@1c0
[19.872156] /build/buildd/linux-3.19.0/drivers/rtc/hctosys.c: unable to open rtc device (rtc0)
starting version 219

DVD spins for several more minutes then stops. No further activity and screen remains as described above.

Please try the Ubuntu MATE 15.10 daily image and let me know if it works. A lot of bugs with the PowerPC port have been fixed in 15.10.

Booting from 15.10 20150825 via USB flash drive fails.
Boot loader shows - select live

White screen with text shows.
Screen goes black and shows:
  [20.239304] i2c i2c-3: i2c-powermac: modalias failure on /uni-n@f8000000/i2c@f8001000/cereal@1c0

Same result if boot with:
  live video=ofonly

So different behaviour but looks like similar failure.

I've just tested this on my iBook G4 using the Ubuntu MATE 15.10 PowerPC build from today. It boots from DVD using 'live' and I've successfully installed.

Sorry, but I can't reproduce your issue :-(

Perhaps try some of these boot options:

radeon.modeset=1 video=offb:off video=1024x768-32 video=radeonfb:off radeon.agpmode=-1
