Sound selection defaults to wrong codec

Bug Description

I'm using Ubuntu MATE 14.04.1 LTS.

I often switch between using speakers and a headset for sound output (System ->Sound->Output).

If I select a codec (between internal sound card vs. headphones, for instance) MATE will remember that selection between reboots. However, once I reboot, the selected default always shows that sound output is internal sound card even if I set it to headphones before I rebooted.

Therefore, if I have sound coming out of the headphones before I rebooted, the next time I start the machine, sound will continue coming out the headphones but the selection under System->Sound->Output shows internal sound card. Upon reboot, to actually get the sound coming out of the internal sound card, I have to select another choice and then pick internal sound card again.

I have attached a screenshot for reference.
