Numbering for subsubsections is ugly

Is there a way to turn off numbering for subsubsections?

It looks fairly crappy when you have something like 6.1.1.1

you can set the counter depth in latex with
\setcounter{secnumdepth}{2}

also for the toc with
\setcounter{tocdepth}{2}
