Bug Description
I have three layouts enabled on my computer: "USA Dvorak international", "USA", and "USA Russian phonetic". The keyboard layout indicator describes these layouts as follows: USA, USA2, USA3. A quick glance up at the indicator doesn't provide me with clear information about which layout I have enabled: if I don't remember the numbering scheme, I have to click on the indicator to check. For that matter, the Russian layout is also listed under "USA".
The panel should give clearer indication of the layout enabled. Simply filtering by country is not enough: the same country can have different layouts.
Mac OSX has clear layout indicators - I think this is a good example of how it should be done. Windows can assign custom images to each of the layouts, which is still better than what Ubuntu offers.

Taken under advisement.
During the natty cycle I will be redesigning the keyboard preferences and indicators in such a way as this would be possible. The only extra thing is that you'd like to pick a custom icon, I'll add the ability to do this.
