Bug Description
Sometimes, after the PC has been idle for some time and the GNOME curtain appears, it is impossible to get back to the desktop. With lock screen on, the problem appears after entering the credentials, which seem to get accepted correctly. With lock screen off, pressing any key or trying to scroll the curtain up causes the system to "freeze" on the curtain view and no further action is possible. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 brings to the login screen, but after a successful log-in I'm faced with a black screen, with only the cursor visible. I tried unlocking the session with loginctl from one of the terminals but that didn't solve the problem.

In my case, I do get back, but it can take minutes. How could one help debugging what the issue is? Got local account and while I am waiting for the login screen to get away, the hard disk light is off; there is no IO. I suspect some kind of timeout is happening.
Ubuntu 18.04, Gnome 3.28.2
