This is weird but for some reason, having some of the kde-telepathy package installed (not on my machine atm so can't really tell which two were), breaks my apt but makes gdm3 to work (while making me somehow break lightdm and sddm). Now I can't login to the previous ones, but can to gdm3. Also removing the package package with synaptic, makes gdm3 unusable again.
This does not make any sense to me.

I recently fixed a bug which prevented GDM from working (LP: #1686257) for people who had GDM installed but not Ubuntu GNOME. Could you give it a try and let us know if that fixes your issue?

Gork,

This bug is about a Radeon system.

If you have similar problems with Nvidia GPUs then please look at these instead:
