Bug Description
GEDIT used to be a very nice text editor suitable for many functions - until the latest efforts to remove all of the selection icon options (gnome 3.20 enhancements?)
At this time, there is a problem with the left hand window where you can select "documents", "file browser", "character map"
If you ever select any of these options (I used "File Browser"), you can NEVER get rid of the left hand display. (There is no "close" option.)
This is costing me 1/3 screen width space for each GEDIT window I may have open, which is severely limiting the document editing space - to less than 70 characters wide.
(I need 120 to 130, and used to get closer to 150 chars wide.)
Also, if I recall correctly, there used to be a small boxed (x) just above the "file Browser and downward pointing arrow" that could be used to close the extra window. That is not longer displayed.
