ubuntu gnome 16.04 xenial 64 bit iso advanced installation option hides the installer screen and installation freezes

Created a bootable usb drive with the ubuntu gnome 16.04 xenial 64 bit iso
During the initial installation dialog, ubuntu suggested three options. 1) completely erase the PC and install gnomeubuntu 2) remove older version of ubuntu and install in the same parition 3) advanced options(create partition, format, ...)

upon selecting the 3rd option, the installer dialog vanished and nothing happened even after an hour...

successfully completed memory test to 100%, restarted, turned off and turned on again and then started the installation but still the installer screen disappears after selecting advanced installation options...

So I couldn't setup the swap space, couldn't select a different partition, couldn't format a partition manually(for fresh install)

but the installer works perfectly if I choose the default option(remove current ubuntu install and install xenial in same partition)

UEFI supported Laptop(but disabled)
4GB RAM
intel corei5
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 630M with 2GB DDR3 VRAM

also gnomeubuntu-utopic, windows 8.1 and windows 7 are installed as multi-boot OS
maybe the advanced install options tried to get a read on the existing OS and their filesystem and that's where it got stuck and went out of commission...

Tried ctrl+alt+f1 ,ctrl+alt+f2 but nothing happened so I couldn't get a gist of what the error might be...
