Bug Description

Running the latest Ubuntu Gnome 14.04b2 and updated, the keyboard layout switches randomly. Can not reproduce, it happens automatically, at random times.

I have these keyboard layouts:
Slovak
English (US)

Im using the Slovak layout all the time, sometimes it switches to US, but the layout indicator on top still says "sk". Even after removing the US layout and restarting, it does happen.

uname -a:
Linux ubuntu 3.13.0-20-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 28 09:56:33 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I just wanted to update bug: I made fresh installation of Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 daily 2014-04-04. During the installation I select English language (for display language) and only Slovak keyboard layout. After first login - again I have two layouts available even when I selected only Slovak - sk and en. It wouldn't be a problem, but it again switches to "en" automatically. In the tray icon, the "sk" is selected and I type with "en" layout. To solve it, I have to click to "English" and back to "Slovak" with the tray layout switcher.

Same problem, installed with English language and German keyboard layout. I removed the english keyboard layout and everythign is fine, but under certain circumstances the keyboard layout switches to English, even though it is not set up. This habbens for instance when I hit "alt + F2" and then reload Gnome-Shell with "r". Only way to switch is back is to add another keyboard layout and switch back and forth.

Same problem here. After ubdating Ubuntu GNOME from version 13.10 to 14.04, when I reload gnome-shell using "alt + f2", and command "r", my keyboard layout switches from polish to english, even though on the tray icon it says "pl". To get polish layout back, I have to switch it on tray icon to english, then again to polish.

It looks like it is not specific to gnome-shell: see bug #124627 (duplicate?)

I also get this problem, but only in Gnome Shell. I have 4 computers running stock Ubuntu 14.04 or 14.10 with the gnome desktop environment installed. They all have this exact problem. I have English GB and English US as options for keyboard layout and they switch at random. Removing the US layout as an option does not stop it. In fact this removes the only way to fix the issue which is to switch in the layout menu from GB to US and back, which seems to reset it. This is a very annoying bug!

It has happened to me perhaps three or four times in 14.10 that the keyboard layout has changed without me changing it. The change was from Finnish into US English (or at least seemed to be, and I have only these two layouts installed). The keyboard indicator wrongly showed Finnish during the problem. Selecting US English layout from the panel and changing it back to Finnish helped.

I didn't pay enough attention at the time of the problem occurring to tell what might have triggered it. If it happens again, I'll take a closer look.
