Bug Description

This happens occasionally immediately after I've booted my machine and logged in. I'm guessing there's a race condition somewhere, since it seems to happen more often if I try to bring up the activities view while the CPU load is too high. Sometimes restarting the shell (Alt-F2, r) prevents this, other times not.
