gnome terminal settings not applied

gnome terminal settings (in Edit > Profile preferences) are not applied when I change them. For example I set background terminal color to black and nothing happen. The default color (with) still remains.

Have you unselected "Use colours from the system theme"?

oops... Color settings work fine when I unselect this box. Indeed transparent background is not working...
Anyway, thank you for the help.

It is affecting me too. Not able to save preferences or even apply them. For example if I select transparent background, no transparent background is shown. Or if I select don't show menu bar in new terminals, even that option is not applied. None of the preferences are being applied.

transparent backgrounds are no longer supported in gnome-terminal 3.8. I don't think the prefs for this should actually be displayed anymore.

menubar option seems broken, are there any other options that don't stick? I couldn't find any.
