Arabic is being added as we speak. I hope to publish some designs and our rationale soon on the design blog.

Zayed: Arabic coverage for Ubuntu Regular and Bold should be arriving sometime during 2011. Designing a font takes a very long time and so it's not possible to do /everything/ at once. In the case of Arabic especially, there is lots of additional engineering required (most of the Arabic consonants have four variants, each of which must be magically selected in a particular circumstance).

I've tagged this bug against the (existing) "arabic support" milestone that's used for tracking progress, and so you should be able to follow that progress by clicking in the top right of this page. Of course when the Ubuntubeta Arabic arrives it will need large amounts of testing, in everyday situations, and I hope you'll be able (and willing!) to help make the assist with that and make the debugging and testing a success!

Update from last month:

  http://design.canonical.com/2011/01/hebrew-and-arabic-on-track/

Arabic and Hebrew are about to enter internal Canonical testing, after that to the beta team and after that to everyone. If you'd like to test, please get in contact! Comments and feedback are gratefully received, it's a chance to get this right (it might not be the first time).

Paul: Has the testing already begin internally, what's the immediate reaction?

Question: What would be needed to finalize and release the font family? What can we do to help?

Moustafa: finding a definite solution to the metric regressions, and then rebuilding the fonts in the family with that solution.

I want to notice that Persian alphabets are the same as Arabic, but it has 4 letters more.
 Except that, everything is identical.
 Please add Persian Support.
