Outline: 'M' (Regular+Bold) not quite symmetrical

Bug Description

Investigating the various reports relating to the rendering of 'M', I noticed that it is slightly asymmetric, whereas the central diagonal of the bold 'M' are highly unbalanced.

This could be what is causing some of the slightly off-centre layout when using the autohinter.

Ideally a script (a piece of code, rather than a human) could be run across the nominally symmetric glyphs to make them be truely symmetric.

The uppercase M is intentionally unsymmetrical - there are almost no
fonts in which the M is truly symmetrical. This is to counteract the
optical illusion effects of four strokes meeting each other. If the
design were adjusted to be numerically symmetrical it would no longer
look optically symmetrical.

Per David Marshall in comment #2, this is intentional.
