Yes, I think that there really should be MD5 checksums available somewhere on the download page. I'm still putting thist to the wishlist since new users don't know how to check the disk image that they download and the regular users just don't care. We are going to replace the old site with a new one in next few months so I don't think that it's that important to change the current dowload page. We are adding the checksums to the new download page anyways.
