When sound is muted and played, permanent clicking is produced

I mute sound and then some sound is played (for example, a sound from Pidgin).
I see clicking.

There was not so in Ubuntu 8.04 and Hardy kernel.

Same here on EeePC 901.
The only way to mute is to uncheck the "iSpeaker" Box in the Mixer.

Sorry, forget to say that i use Intrepid with newest Adamms Kernel and Gregs eeecontrol..

I can confirm this. I also noticed that not all mixers are available like in Hardy. For example mic boost isn`t there...

Something changed on the 2.6.27 kernel that makes this problem. Hope ubuntu team can help on solving this.

I switched from ALSA to PulseAudio. no more problems. Of course, I anticipate problems with alsa-only applications though ...

very very low noise "tickticktickt...." when playback is muted.

I confirm this too, on eeepc901

Static noise on mute, just 2 vol controls with 2.6.27 kernel.
Also operating with sliders in the volume control seems erratic. I move left slider up, the right channel unlinks and stays. Then the left comes to zero alone...

Kernel 2.6.24 worked great, no static, and all controls available.
right now i am using Linux hourglass 2.6.27-8-eeepc-lean #1 SMP Sun Nov 16 12:45:01 MST 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
