Using headphone does not mute main speakers

Bug Description

The headphone output works properly now with the newest array.org - kernel from adam, but "normal operation" would be that when a headphone is plugged in the jack socket, the internal speakers would mute.
However, this is not the case. Tested on 8.04.1 RC 2

And all of a sudden, it just started working. But I noticed that the muting seems to be done somewhere in hardware, ie the changes in sound status isn't reflected in Gnome Volume Control-panel. Muting/unmuting (as per bug #244059) also works more or less if not done while volume control is running, then it reverts to the same way that bug describes. Otherwise the muting is just "mute Main, set front to 0"

I get exactly the same on my Eee1000, using Ubuntu 8.4.1 RC2.

If I plug the headphones in, then the speakers still work (even though the headphones switch is ticked).

If I open the Volume Control and select the mute button under the Front volume slider, then the speakers are muted, but I still get sound via the headphones. If I unmute by pressing the button again, the speakers and headphones both have sound.

If I use the Fn+F10 keys to mute, it kills the speakers and the headphones. Unmuting with Fn+F10 only brings back the speakers.

The sound is very good quality though!!

There are some components for the eeepc 1000 sound card that aren't working properly.

It's possible that this was fixed by the solution to another bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-eeepc-kernel/+bug/269166

Can someone who's running EeePC 1000 hardware validate if this problem still exists?

I have Adam's latest kernel installed, and the main speakers mute properly when I insert the headphones. I did have a bit of trouble, though, getting the phones to play sound. There seemed to be a mismatch between what the Gnome volume control showed for the headphones (unmuted, full volume) and the sound (no sound). I had to tinker with the volume control a bit to get the control and the phones to "sync up."

That's a different issue, though; the main speakers do mute when I put the phone in, so this one seems solved.

It seems to work now. Now the only problems are that volume up+down and mute still is somewhat flaky...

There is a similar bug in the eee900.

I had the problem, where sounds would work through normal speakers, but when I plugged in my head phones I got no sound, when I unplug the headphones I still get no sound through the main speakers.

Problem is in the gnome-volume-control under the switches tab, if the headphones switched is checked every thing works fine, not both headphones are muted and main speakers even after you unplug the headphones.

If someone wanted to point me int he right direction I'd love to dive in and help with the project, it sounds like an easy fix and would be a good start point.
