Bug Description

The "Help" link in the "Applications" menu now gives:

"File not found
Firefox can't find the file at /usr/share/xubuntu-docs/desktopguide/C/index.html."

I was reading the intro to linux terminal commands, accessed via the help menu item, when the ubuntu-docs 7.10.5 upgdate and several language pack updates, including language-pack-en 1:7.10+20080229, were applied. It appears that the whole /usr/share/xubuntu-docs/desktopguide/ folder is missing. I tried reapplying the ubuntu-docs 7.10.5 update with the same result.

I am using xubuntu 7.10.

This wouldn't really be a bug in xubuntu-docs, but a bug in the link from the applications menu in 7.10. Will test tonight on 8.04 beta to see if it's still present.

Does the help link in the applications menu automatically adjust to the last help topic one was viewing? The menu item worked one day and didn't the next, immediately after applying the mentioned update. I was half way through reading a series of help pages when it stopped working.

The update that broke the help link was "ubuntu-docs 7.10.5". So i think this is an ubuntu-docs issue, or at least an ubuntu/xubuntu compatibility issue. Did this update remove the desktop guide for some reason? Did it do overzealous "cleanup"?

Xubuntu only used to have a basic "desktop guide," which provided a basic orientation to the system. Starting with Gutsy, we tried to model ourselves after Ubuntu's documentation, but we must've missed changing that .desktop file from the menu. It still links over looking for the Desktop guide, but it's not there anymore.

This may also just be a bug in xubuntu-default-settings, but I'm not sure where the desktop files are imported from.

This is not an issue on a default Hardy install. "Help" is available and
launches correctly either through Applications > Help, or through the help
button in the default top panel.

I haven't checked it on a Gutsy install.
