Bug Description

Would like to update the TAR command to add --excludes, both mandatory (IMO) and optional
The tar command , as is , will fail
I would add:
1. TAR BACKUP really should be done from a live CD or it is subject to interruption - See the comment
" It bombs half way through showing: /lib/plymouth/
2. IMO manditory excludes are
--exclude=/proc \
--exclude=/tmp \
--exclude=/mnt \
--exclude=/dev \
--exclude=/sys \
3. IMO optional excludes are (reasoning in askubuntu answer and can be added to wiki page):
--exclude=/var/log \
--exclude=
--exclude=
--exclude=
--exclude=
--exclude=/media \
--exclude=/run \
4. In addition to cleaning trash, users may want to clear ~/.cache and apt-get clean
If I can have permissions to edit the page I can do it myself, otherwise it really needs some testing and cleanup.
Please note that the page in question is a wiki page which anybody can /help.ubuntu. com/community/ WikiGuide
edit - including you. ;-)

Since you seem to know how it should be changed, it would be great if
you could fix it.
