Bug Description

The mir documentation hosted at http://unity.ubuntu.com/mir/ needs to be updated.

According to thomi, there is or was a jenkins job that extracted the docs and pushed them to the web server. We need to find that job, and schedule it to run every time there's a new unity release.

The job is here:

http://s-jenkins.ubuntu-ci:8080/job/mir-docs-upload/

Indeed it hasn't succeeded since October. The failure is due to a failure to connect to maitri.canonical.com. perhaps that server has been moved? I'm not familiar with the details of how our web pages are hosted.

We had to redo http://s-jenkins.ubuntu-ci:8080/job/autopilot-docs-upload/ some time back because of a change to the firewall rules or something related to the access to the ssh target. I suspect we just need to make the same change here.

I'll take a look at the autopilot job and try to figure out what when wrong.

I took a closer look at this and two things happened to break this job:
 1) The CI lab was moved and we lost the needed firewall rule
 2) Autolanding was moved to the ci-train process, so there is nothing to kick off mir-docs-upload.

To fix this, we can do the same thing that is being done for autopilot now. See http://s-jenkins.ubuntu-ci:8080/job/autopilot-docs-upload/

Invalid for the Mir project. Internally its docs are always current. It's just the web site that's lagging.

The website should be the "go to" place for Mir documentation.

While Mir has been largely an internal development it has been an annoyance that the documentation is out of date and that corrections don't appear publicly.

We're approaching RTM and the need to support users of Mir will ramp up: we need to be prepared by having accurate and current documentation easily available.

As Mir team, we try hard to keep our documentation up-to-date. It's important that the latest information is visible to outsiders tracking our progress, without having to download the Mir source. This includes our (direct and indirect) management. (Incidentally, what prompted this bug was a comment from Oliver Ries that this team reports to, who uses our website to track our progress at a macro level).

As Alan said, with the RTM approaching, we expect Mir to receive a good amount of scrutiny. It's even more important now than ever, that the information is up-to-date and accessible for those who want to take a peek. This reduces the support burden for the Mir team, prevents lots of confusion, as well as projects professionalism on the part of Canonical.

I'm sure everyone is overwhelmed with the RTM work. However it'd be great if we could prioritize this so that we have an up-to-date set of docs on the website, some time before RTM.

Just glomming onto Cemil's post above. We'd be grateful to get some attention to this asap. We've had one or 2 folks from the community getting lost as well.

We've created two new jobs that should run on a daily basis and update the docs. As of now the last job is running, and I can see several pages already updated: http://unity.ubuntu.com/mir/. Once it completes, I'll check if all docs were updated accordingly and update this bug.
