Bug Description

The source .iso files on the two web pages for Xubuntu and Mythbuntu:

  http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/mythbuntu/releases/hardy/release/source/
  http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/8.04/release/source/

are empty:

  mythbuntu-8.04-src-1.iso 22-Apr-2008 21:09 0 Source CD 1 (standard download)
  xubuntu-8.04-src-1.iso 22-Apr-2008 20:37 0 Source CD 1 (standard download)

The mirrors (of course) seem to be the same.

The Kubuntu-KDE4 src is also empty:

http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/kubuntu-kde4/releases/8.04/release/source/

kubuntu-kde4-8.04-src-1.iso 23-Apr-2008 04:55 0 Source CD 1 (standard download)

Did you want these in a separate bug?

They're not supposed to be there. The decision was made not to make .iso's of the source code since the source code is all available separately.

Call me crazy, but it seems like it would make more sense to just not put a source .iso file out there if you aren't releasing one, rather than putting an empty one?

Yeah, as an active member of the cdimage team, I can't say I agree with Mackenzie - this absolutely looks like a mistake, not something deliberate. (However I'm on holiday for the next couple of weeks so somebody else will have to investigate if they want it fixed before I get back.)

Moving to the ubuntu-cdimage project, where this sort of thing belongs.

Also, Mackenzie, who made this decision? I don't recall ever hearing of it and would have expected to have done so. Furthermore it isn't in line with the rest of Ubuntu and there is no reason to diverge for particular flavours.

I notice that the source directory has been completely removed for Mythbuntu, which is cool I guess. The Kubuntu-kde4-8.04.1-src and Xubuntu-8.04.1-src are still empty.

Since the Kubuntu-kde4 went away with 8.10 that problem has gone away in 8.10. The only funky thing left is the Xubuntu-8.10-src-1.iso is still an empty file.

If you just want to see which packages are present (which I infer from your comment in bug 384785 is basically what you were trying to do), then look at the .manifest file alongside the .iso image.

In current releases, we now produce a single source ISO set for all flavors.
