IPv6 torrent tracker not downloading

Bug Description

I have an IPv6 only host that I would like to use to torrent the Ubuntu images. I just use the IPv6 tracker https://ipv6.torrent.ubuntu.com/announce. However, I get stuck at "Downloading metadata". I see I am connected to the tracker, I get enough seeds and/or peers listed, but it doesn't proceed any further. 3rd party IPv6-only trackers (e.g. birkenwald.de) work just fine. This has been like this for over a year and I tried different torrent clients (Transmission, qBittorrent) in different versions.

I have no real idea how to debug this. I've read a bit on how the torrent protocol works. Since the tracker uses https it's impossible to track with Wireshark. I suspect there is some problem with the options like IP address etc. sent to the tracker with the announce-URL.

BitTorando - the tracker used by Ubuntu - hasn't received any further development since 2007(!). So no wonder it doesn't handle IPv6-only clients well. But now this is becoming a nuisance.

Thanks. I've filed a request with the Canonical sysadmins to see if they can look at this and maybe redeploy the tracker onto something else.

(For people at Canonical, the ID is: #129855.)

It's in the queue. When there's something to be reported, it'll be
shared here.

Hi,

We've done some work on this, and as a result I've been able to successfully download several torrents from an IPv6 only host using transmission v3 as a client.

I'll mark this one as resolved, please let us know if you're still experiencing issues.

Hello,

no, the issues are not resolved. Are you sure your test client didn't have any IPv4 connectivity, not even via DNS64/NAT64? Did you also disable PEX/DHT/LSD? I am on a pure IPv6-only system and while the client can contact the IPv6-tracker, it doesn't get any peers. If I add another IPv6-tacker (e.g. http://tracker.datacenterlight.ch:6969/announce), I'll immediately get connected to other peers and downloading starts. I tried this on two different machines in different networks.

Cheers,
t
