Bug Description

The 18.04 "alternate" server iso should be clearly marked as such and offered on the same page with the new "live" image.

Seems to me the "subiquity" ("live") installer should be considered the "alternative" but I suppose its a bit late for this.

If anyone has information as to the end-result differences between the "live" and "alternative" ISO images are, please let us know in this thread: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2390785

All my servers use LVM so there is no reason for me to install the "live" version.

The only things mentioned being different between the two sounded like just installer differences such as LVM/RAID options but that isn't the case.

The page at http://www.ubuntu.com/download/server explains the difference between the images and presents links for downloading each of the image types.

We do not present this information on releases.ubuntu.com which is not the primary entry point for downloading Ubuntu images and whose content is generated by scripts that are awkward to change on a per-release basis.
