Because security support has been extended for 12.04 as a paid service, the images should not be removed from the download site.

Perhaps then a big obvious notice should be added to the 12.04 download page to make users aware of this who just go to the downloads as they may download thinking it is supported for free by default when it is not. Also perhaps ESM should be somewhere in the download link text to make it obvious in the downloads list as well or have a separate section for ESM releases.

Or to have something else from what is currently there as otherwise lots of people following old guides and their memory will probably download 12.04 from there thinking it is still supported by default and be using an insecure system without knowing it.

Yes, good point. Message added now to the top of the page.

Which download link text do you mean?

Unfortunately, most people following such guides are not going to be reading the text anyway; but we should at least provide what guidance we can.

Great, if it were up to me I'd also put it in a big red obvious box or something similar to draw attention to it as people might not notice that extra bit of the text at the top and just go straight to the downloads below.

I mean the one here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/ which currently only reads "Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS (Precise Pangolin)". It might be good to make it obvious in that list that it is ESM-only for updates and that the release has otherwise gone EOL. And perhaps also the folder for 12.04.5 listed below, the description section could be changed to better reflect its current status.

I don't know, maybe it's fine to leave it as it is, but I thought I should just mention it to you and then you can do whatever you deem appropriate.
