Bug Description

The calculator can only be viewed in the side stage. While this is convenient for some user scenarios, a fullscreen calculator could provide extensive mathematical functions to the user, making it a very powerful calculator. Ideally, these same powerful functions would be made available to the phone version as well, but the tablet version currently ignores that sometimes all a user needs is a calculator. They don't need whatever else they previously were using.

I described my idea to solve this issue on:

Thanks for taking the time to test the calculator app and to file the bug report.

You are absolutely right. However, on the first iteration for the core apps to be released as part of Ubuntu 13.10, we're focusing on optimizing them for the phone only. While the apps will run on tablet and desktop nevertheless, optimizing them for those other form factors will be tackled in a subsequent iteration.

I'm marking the bug as Low importance right now, but it will be fixed some time after 13.10.

My proposal is to check height/width ratio.
If there is landscape then additional keys column should be added.

See mock-ups for tablet and cellular phone screens.
On cellular phone screen (on portrait mode), the additional keys could be accessed by swipe left or right virtual keyboard.

I need to ask design team about that

Calculator mockup for standard cellular phone screen do not change.

To access advanced keys, you need to swipe "virtual calculator keyboard" left or right.

Thanks for reporting - we fixed that in the reboot series, that will be released soon and will substitute the current calculator app.
