deleted files return after conversion to an iso

Bug Description

Every time I convert to an iso, files that were uneeded and deleted return onto the desktop.

It was files on the desktop of the live cd, stuff like links and various files that I had used for compiling ect.

I can't remember what release it was (of ubuntu), but it was using the gnome desktop. It might have something to do with starting the x server, as the files from when I reinstalled it suddenly re-appear on the livecd, despite being completely deleted from the system. (I didn't know how to make logical links when I was faced with this, so I would have to use startx to boot the live system)
