Not a boot speed bug. The bug task on Ubuntu is sufficient.

Sounds like a kernel issue, the actual error message is:

codec_read: codec 0 is not valid [0xfe0000]

And googling it shows that the error message appears around the place (different kernels, different distro's, different programs cause it) it's just difficult to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from.

affects: ubuntu → linux (Ubuntu)
summary: - Codec error[0*000fe00) error shows when i boot into ubuntu
+ codec_read: codec 0 is not valid [0xfe0000] error shows when i boot into
+ ubuntu

I installed a fresh distribution of LinuxMint 9 (Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid) in an Asus A7V8X-X running an Nvidia video card. After install, before updates, I installed the correct driver per jockey. Up to this point no errors were displayed on boot; I would get the 5 green alternating dots with no verbage displayed as it loaded prior to the desktop. I thought I would run "Startup Manager" to display a normal resolution on the the splash screen. Ever since I ran StartupMgr I get 4 progressive green dots and the cursive "LinuxMint 9" displayed above the dots followed by four errors:

codec_read: codec 0 is not valid [0xfe0000]

Installing all available levels 1,2, & 3 updates, it still didn't go away. It doesn't seem to affect the running of LM9 (Isadora/Lucid) however it is a pain in the ass to look at. After running DMESG in terminal; it states the kernal is tainted. I can run "apport-collect 858723" if you wish.

Any Ideas? -redkestral
