Bug Description

I allready discussed this with Wolf, but we thought we might open a bug report as a forum of discussion (as this functionality is missing here on launchpad).

Wolf originally set a space of 10px between each line, the current development version has 8. I added screenshots showing the differences.

Problem 1: Watching you files with Uberwriter is fine, but after all, it is a plaintext editor. If you view your files on any other editor, they should not look too differen. If you use Uberwriters 10px line spacing, you propably will not insert a blank line after a heading. On the other side, in e.g. GEdit, you propably will. I opening a file done with GEdit in Uberwriter, only a few lines fit on the screen; if otherwise, the text looks all squeezed up.

Problem 2: Leaving 10px (or 8px) between each line lets a document grow in size pretty fast. As you can see on the screenshots, 0px uses about 2/3 of the space 10px needs for the same text. Although, having a large spacing between two (soft-wraped) lines of the same paragraph makes them almost seem like two seperate paragraphs. And as you have a blank line between two paragraphs anyway, you do not need the extra space there.

Problem 3: I use all sorts of kind-of plaintext formats. I use differen Wiki syntaxes and before i discovered markdown, i used my own plaintext format (which was a bit similar to markdown and Wiki syntaxes). What all have in common is, that i used to add a blank line between a heading (# or ==== is irrelevant) and the following paragraph. If i see the 10px between the lines in Uberwriter, i tend not to add this line, as the spacing is pretty high anyway. But then, as of Problem 1, it looks all squeezed if watched in the browser, gedit or notepad++ (yeah, a few times a year i use windows).

After watching my screenshots, i tend to prefer the spacing of the 0px or the 2px.png.

I hope to have convinced you all ;-)

@dev-team: i used the "pixels_inside_wrap" value for naming of screenshots.

I guess it is a matter of taste. I, for one, like the spacing as it is (I think I'm not even using the development version, so I'm working with 10px between my lines). And I would be very sad if that setting disappears.

I'd also vote for leaving the spacing as-is or only reducing it minimally. Readability is king imo. And I don't insert blank lines between headings and text.
