Listing tables can become wider than the page

In wide enough listings the table element can grow wider than the page width. This seems to be caused by padding in the cells and buggy (or just misunderstood) behaviour in how browsers calculate the width when the cells are padded.

After some investigation it seems that while this is tied to some calculation somewhere, it is exacerbated by listings with columns containing unbreakable text (text that contains no satisfactory place to perform a word break, such as a fully qualified Python name.)
