Bug Description

As reported by larnold and confirmed by myself (and others anecdotally) posting on the TKL forums is really painful from an Android device. I assume it is because Android doesn't have a complete Java implementation? If so hopefully this will be resolved as Java 1.7 becomes the standard. Java 1.7 open source version is reportedly much more compatible with the proprietary version so hopefully we will see the full OpenJava 1.7 included in future Android releases?

But perhaps it would be possible for some solution/automated workaround on the server side (ie detect access from Android device and auto disable WYSIWYG text editor)?

After a bit of a search around the net, it seems that this is a known issue between CKEditor and Android (and possibly iOS too?) It is a result of a complex combination of OS and/or browsers not correctly supporting CKEditor, and CKEditor not being aware of this and not adjusting it's behaviour. From reports I have read there has been some progress (it sounds like previously it didn't work at all...) but it's still obviously not great. Besides, future fixes in Android may not be available to users of existing devices. CKEditor devs also seem to be onto it and have apparently made changes to assist with support on Android devices.

Regardless, until there is a proper resolution, the workaround is to enable plain text (ie disable WYSIWYG) when posting on the forums from an Android device (click 'Source' in top left of text box toolbar).

The severity of this bug really depends on how much you use an Android browser on the forums. For me it has forced me back to my netbook (from my tablet) for using TKL forums so I have marked it as 'high'. Obviously that is highly subjective.
