Drupal password init script does not act consistently with root password with regard to some password charaters

Bug Description

This specifically relates to the inclusion of $ in a password. If used as part of a root password, works fine. However if a Drupal password of '$1gma' is set then the password is actually 'gma' (the '$1' doens't make it in...)
