Bug Description

In the email discussion of the idea of an image builder project it has been highlighted that the current elements have a operating-system/database matrix that will only get larger. It has been observed that we may be able to reduce this matrix by having either database or operating-system independent scripts.

This launchpad entry is to record that observation and work towards fixing that.
