Very slow startup with Inkscape SVN

Bug Description

SVN builds of Inkscape are taking upwards of 30 seconds
to load (average time for packaged version is 3-5 seconds)

configure flags were:

configure --prefix=/home/paul/Programs/inkscape-svn
--enable-inkboard --enable-lcms --with-perl --with-xft
--with-python --with-gnome-print

It could be related to the amount of fonts I have
installed, as I recently added quite a lot, but the
Ubuntu-packaged version still starts up in a couple of
seconds.

Having same problem with 0.44pre1 (using standard configure
options via dpkg build)
Also, the memory info says it's using over 3 times that what
0.43 used (around 64MB). Surely that's not right?

cannot reproduce. what version is the Ubuntu-packaged
version? also, please try without the --with-xft option

(I've made an account now...)

The Ubuntu version is 0.43-4ubuntu3
It depends on libxft2, though, so I don't think that's the
problem. (I'll still try it and report back).

I can get a normal startup time by passing the -G arg on the
command line, but then the icons and menus are all placeholders.

Adding --without-xft didn't affect the startup time :(
I thought it might be related to libboost-graph, so I tried
removing that and building, but no joy either.

i confirm that I don't have the problem but my inkscape is
linked with libXft and libpangoft2 too. an idea would be to
try delete $HOME/.fonts.cache-1 (then try twice) or to check
if the inavailability of it would be the reason of slowness

That didn't work either :(

Here's the differences of ldd output for both versions

In Ubuntu's but not mine:
libperl, libcrypt
(Probably because perl was broken when I last checked out SVN)

In mine but not Ubuntu's:
libgtkspell, libaspell, libgnomeprintui, libgnomeprint,
libgnomecanvas, libart_lgpl, libloudmouth, liblcms

Is it possible that any of these could cause the slowness?

I'm sorry, I can't (I'm not using Ubuntu anymore)

I'll download it and try it on my sister's machine, though (she has the
same problem)\
