Bug Description

Binary package hint: transmission

Hi alll ! First time here, I love transmission !
I remove and delete a torrent, either active or paused and completely downloaded or not -doesn't matter-, or even just remove it without deleting from transmission and then deleting it manually.
Next time I restart transmission, torrent comes back and starts downloading.
It's different to Bug #183500: "restarts downloading after deleting fully downloaded files" in that it happens when I remove or remove and delete from transmission.
I'm in Ubuntu Jaunty, transmission 1,51-0Ubuntu3

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

On startup, Transmission scans ~/.config/transmission/torrents (if you're using the gtk version) or ~/.config/transmission-daemon/torrents (if you're using the daemon) and loads all the torrents in that directory.

1. Are you using the gtk, or daemon, version of Transmission?

2. When you remove a torrent in in Transmission, and then look in ~/.config/transmission/torrents, is the corresponding .torrent file still there?

3. Do you have permissions to delete the corresponding .torrent file?

4. Do you own the corresponding .torrent file?

Thanks welcome !
1. I'm using the gtk. The command to start says: transmission %F
I dont have the folder ~/.config/transmission-daemon
2. No, I removed 2 torrent files and they weren't there. However, just closed and restarted, and there they were again,
in the folder ~/.config/transmission/torrents, only as .resume files, also in ~/.config/transmission/resume
3. The ~/.config/transmission/torrents folder has 40755 permissions and I'm the owner. The torrent files have 100644 and again I'm the owner
4. Just tested to remove and delete from the transmission interface, and torrent files disappeared in both ~/.config/transmission/torrents and ~/.config/transmission/resume folders
Tested again, after restarting they are back !!!
I'm calling George Romero for this one...
5. Just tested once more by trying to remove -not deleting while paused, and also delete different torrent files. It looks like it's only this 2 files that keep coming back all the time, any others dont come back no more.
6. I have to manually mount a second internal disk where I download not all but many of the torrents, and sometimes I forget to do it before starting transmission, but that didn't trump any other files to come back again and again...
These 2 files, I never actually got to download them completely, since there were no more seeders.
7. If this kind of thing isn't troubling nobody else I guess it's not much of a problem, then. I might try debugging and then upgrading if I find a good tutorial.

Thanks to all !

Hmmm.

Is it possible that they're being auto-added on startup from your "Automatically add torrents from" folder?

No, the preference isn't checked.
Any idea where the data of just these two torrents might be stored?
I have some weirdly named files in the /.config/transmission/torrents folder

How many zombie torrents appear when you start transmission?

Do you have an old ~/.transmission/torrents/ folder, and if so, how many files are in it? Are these the zombie torrents? Do you have write permission to those files in ~/.transmission/torrents/ ?

No zombies there. The folder is there and it has 40700 permission on it, but it's empty.

Okay, I see the problem. Transmission understands the old-style (~/.transmission/torrents) filenames ending in -gtk, but not in -cli, so it's not deleting them properly.

Short-term workaround: delete the ~/.config/transmisson/torrents/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-cli files

Actual fix: http://trac.transmissionbt.com/changeset/8775, to be released in 1.73
