Bug Description

Touchpad Indicator application fails to enable the touchpad on login using a 4P Pavilion dv4 Notebook PC (NB204UA#ABA/dv4-1222nr), running Ubuntu 11.04 with Linux kernel 2.6.38-8-generic and gnome 2.32.1.

Currently, I have the application set to "autostart" and "disable the touchpad" when I have a mouse plugged in. The problem doesn't occur, if I have "disable touchpad" disabled. A temporary solution to resolve the problem with the "disable touchpad" enabled is to temporarily plug in a wireless mouse to the point it functions, then removing the mouse. At this point the touchpad functions.

If more information is required, please let me know

In version 0.8.0.3 there is new option in Preferences Window.

Please try it and If it works correctly change the status to fixed

Thanks

Installed 0.8.0.3 on my system. The program still has the problem. To further troubleshoot, I created another account, stripping it down with only the touchpad indicator as the only add-on running background application. The problem still occurs. My system is up-to-date, with all the current stable drivers, etc from Ubuntu. I do not have any beta or unstable applications, etc. Further, the python gconf binding will not work with this version. It will continually show the touchpad as disabled, instead of toggling.

Hi Chuck,

If you shut down with touchpad disabled, then, when you start Ubuntu, the touchpad will be disabled. If you shut down Ubuntu with touchpad enabled, when you start Ubuntu the touchpad will be enabled.

In the last version of Touchpad Indicator I added an option in preferences: "Touchpad enabled at start", so if this option is checked, when you start Ubuntu, the touchpad will be enabled, althought when you shut down Ubuntu, touchpad was disabled.

Try it, and tell me, please

Thanks

Lorenzo,

With current version, I have tested with the touchpad enabled and
disabled, before shutting down the computer. In all cases, I have to
plug in any external mouse, then remove it to enable the touchpad.

Additionally, I do not have touchpad issues with any account that does
not have this app loaded.

If you need further information, please contact me.

Regards,
Chuck

Confirming this on 0.8.0.6. If "enable touchpad on start " is checked, irrespective of previous status, the touchpad gets disabled after reboot. Only solution is to plug in and plug out a usb mouse .

This is correct. Additionally, it is only on accounts with the
application. Other accounts are not affected.

The same happens to me. Even with the option "enable touchpad at start" checked, it starts the touchpad disabled.

Same problem on a dell vostro 3750

Version 0.8.1.1
Linux Mint 11 Katya

I have all the features (autostart, disable touch when... , enable touchpad at start) ON.
When I start session with no mouse connected, touchpad is disabled and shortcut doesn't work.

My temp. solution:
1) unchecked "disable touchpad when mouse plugged"
2) in gconf-editor:
apps > metacity > global_keybindings > run_command_1: <Control><Alt>0
apps > metacity > keybinding_commands > command_1: python /usr/share/touchpad-indicator/change_touchpad_state.py

With these settings I can turn on/off touchpad with the shortcut "<Control><Alt>0".
Unfortunately, when "disable touchpad when mouse plugged" is checked the python command does not work (that's why I unchecked that option).
Could spend some time to read the code, but to me this partial solution is enough, by now :)

Hello Lorenzo,
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 - Lucid & Touchpad-Indicator 0.8.1.1. And I got the same problem as above. If I check on "Disable Touchpad when mouse plug", my touchpad will be disabled everytime the Touchpad-Indicator start. If that option is not checked nothing wrong, but that awsome option is exactly what I need :D. Thanks.
