Bug Description

Hi Mr Lorenzo
Bad new again with your touchpad-indicator version 1.0.5:
IT WILL NOT START ON A FRESHLY REINSTALLED SYSTEM
I tried to start it after ppa installation on a Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon
edition 64 bits. The icon did not come in the taskbar when I called it
from the system menu.
To try to obtain a reason for this, I called it in a console:
It appears that a configuration file is missing in the
/home/username/.config directory, and it does not go to create it.
I tried manually to make it, but it says that line 1 is missing in that
file (the file i created was empty).
I join hereby the console textfile

Best regards

I just ran into this problem too. It expects a JSON-format file, so just create the file with "{}" as the contents:

echo '{}' > ~/.config/touchpad-indicator/touchpad-indicator.conf

Working fine on Ubuntu 15.04.

Good morning Andrew,
Thank you for the information. I will try later on during the day. At
the time being, I wrote a 6 lines script having the same effect as
Touchpad-indicator for what is about disabling the touchpad, with a very
simple rule, this script is referenced in the autostart programs, and it
runs very nicely. The problem with TPI is that we get out of a bug to
enter another one, and the reporting system is heavy to handle, with a
large list recently reported bugs with udecided status. (I had a problem
of detection of my touchpad as a mouse as well as a TP) which was
solved, so I replaced the installed and de-activated TPI 1.04 by 1.05 to
discover it was not starting all the time. Bug is reported but still
undecided. Having a new PC to equip, (the same as I already have), TPI
installed on the new installed linux did not work for the reason of this
missing file, which is still an existing bug as TPI should crate the
JSON format file. I have not enough knowledge of Python programming to
delve inside, and I feel bad with this.
This software is very nice and had been working fine in prior versions
provided the Touchpad was not a martian one, but it becomes apparently
unstable and if it adds new bugs when others are being corrected, it
becomes a problem.

So, my small sunday worker's script being working fine, I do not think I
will bloat my laptop with this software. and loose my nerves in this again.

Best regards
JF Duhamel

Good evening.
I tried touchpad indicator 1.0.5 on a linux mint 17.2 mate fresh install
on an HP mini110 32 bits, equipped with a synaptics toucpha, it works
fine here.
I tried alsp on my HP 240 G3 (64 bits) with linux mint cinnamon 17.2,
equipped with an ALPS PS2 Glidepoint Tpad (after reinstalling the system
from 0): Here it works randomly. It does not restart from system reboot,
does no restart from system standbye, and when restarted manually, does
not recognize allways the insertion of a mouse or its disconnexion.
There is no reason from the program autostart, as it works for anything
else, so I do not understand.

As said, in this particular case, a few lines script associated to a
rule is working much better, restarts systematically after logout-login,
system reboot, taking in consideration the presence or absence of a
mouse at restart, and also systematically recognizing the connection and
disconnection of a mouse.

Best regards

Thanks a lot. I love TPI but after a fresh install of Linux mint Cinnamon 17 i coudn't make it work. This solution worked for me.
Workin on Linuxmint Cinnamon 17 Fresh install

Only for completing the command line solution:
1. Create empty missing config file "touchpad-indicator.conf" (And dir if needed)

mkdir ~/.config/touchpad-indicator
touch ~/.config/touchpad-indicator/touchpad-indicator.conf

2. Fill the file with the content for this solution

echo '{}' > ~/.config/touchpad-indicator/touchpad-indicator.conf

Thanks

It seems crashes only 1.0.5 version, I'm using older 1.0.4 version without problems :)
