I've forgot to mention that the version is 1.0.0-0extras13.10.1-src.

En español: touchpad-indicator versión 1.0.0-0extras13.10.1-src no arranca cuando rebooteo el equipo.
Es un lubuntu 13.10 sobre una netbook Asus 1015PEM.

Saludos y gracias!

I use ubuntu 12.10 64 bit and has the same problem with this version of touchpad indicator.
Even when manually starting touchpad indicator it doesn't work the first time.
But the second time I start it the touchpad indicator icon appears.

The workaround I use now is to go to the startup applications in unity and start touchpad indicator twice with the correct path.
There is already one instance of touchpad indicator in there but it has the wrong path.
You're to change it to the correct path and add another startup application that starts touchpad indicator a second time.

The path to touchpad indicator is:
/opt/extras.ubuntu.com/touchpad-indicator/bin/touchpad-indicator

After doing this touchpad indicator is working fine (also after suspend).

Ok, I did some more testing.
The reason the touchpad-indicator doesn't start on boot is that the paths to the application and the icon in
~/.config/autostart/touchpad-indicator-autostart
are not correct.

Change the paths in this file to:
Icon = /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/touchpad-indicator/share/touchpad-indicator/icons/touchpad-indicator.svg
Exec=/opt/extras.ubuntu.com/touchpad-indicator/bin/touchpad-indicator

And touchpad-indicator works as normal.
There's no reason to start it twice like I said in my previous post (starting it twice helped before because the second time it used the correct path).

So, it looks like a bug during the installation process of touchpad indicator - it just sets the wring paths.

interesting, Kris, but in my box those paths were correctly in the pointed config file.
There must be another kind of problem

thx anyway

Thanks manu.

Maybe I got this specific problem because I was upgrading touchpad-indicator in the following way:
- I removed the old version via the ubuntu software center
- I installed the new version.

Probably the config file of the old version was not removed, but the installed files were.
When installing the latest version version the installed config file was not upgraded with the new paths.

Did you do a fresh installation or an upgrade?
Are you sure you've the hidden flag unchecked in the preferences?
Did you try to manually add touch-pad indicator in the start up applications (just type startup at the dash to get there)?
The executable can be found in : /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/touchpad-indicator/bin/touchpad-indicator

Sorry, I saw you're using Lubuntu.

So you don't have the unity shell.

On Lubuntu, Manually adding on application to make it start automatically can be done like this:

Or you can try this (it was used by someone to solve the dropbox autostart issue on Lubuntu 13.10):

Menu --> Preferences --> Default applications for LXSession --> Autostart
Under Manual autostarted application type "touchpad-indicator start" (without quotes) and hit add.

Same startup problem on Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon

The path is /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/touchpad-indicator/bin/touchpad-indicator. This is correct in both the system startup program and in the .config file. I have tried deleting and retyping the path but it makes no difference. Startup from the application program or a desktop icon is fine and once started touch-indicator works fine. I am using a logitech wireless mouse.

I installed using the commands..
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install touchpad-indicator

The Lenovo G550, that I have Mint on, has a bug that requires the touchpad to be disabled when a mouse is connected otherwise the cursor can jump back and forth when typing. I really need the convenience of having the touchpad automatically disabled at startup when my mouse connected.

Same problem as Dave but with Linux Mint 17.1 (Cinnamon) on Asus N750JK

I resolved the problem with this workaround:

- clean installation of touchpad-indicator from the atareao ppa (delete old config files)
- created a shell script that automatically start at boot with a delay of 30-40 sec after cinnamon load

Lines in the script:

"
/opt/extras.ubuntu.com/touchpad-indicator/bin/touchpad-indicator
"

For me has worked very well! Good Luck

N.B: do not flag the autostart option in touchpad indicator settings
N.B I : sorry for my bad english
