Bug Description

Device: Nexus 7 (2013)
Image: r187 (older images were also affected)

Steps to reproduce:
- Upload a video file to the device
- Open it via the file manager or the "Video" Dash page

What happens:
Depending on the source file, one or more of the following things may happen:
- Playback does not even start, the screen stays black.
- Audio playback starts, but the screen stays black.
- Playback starts, but video freezes after a few seconds and then audio stops a few seconds later.
- The speed of the video is correct, but not every frame is displayed on the screen - playback is stuttering.

What should happen:
Smooth playback.

Notes:
It heavily depends on the source file, http://download.blender.org/peach/bigbuckbunny_movies/ might be a good and legal source for test material. For example http://download.blender.org/peach/bigbuckbunny_movies/big_buck_bunny_480p_h264.mov stutters on my device, and http://download.blender.org/peach/bigbuckbunny_movies/big_buck_bunny_480p_stereo.avi provokes the "audio-is-playing-but-the-screen-is-black" behaviour.

I no longer own the device and can't confirm the bug on more recent releases. May be closed.

Using a Nexus 5, I can confirm this still occurs. I have the audio playing but the screen stays black.

On my Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi, videos initially played smoothly, but now when I attempt to play a video, it opens the video app, loads for a short time, then says "Failed to connect with playback backend."
