phablet user in gps group

The phablet user is in the gps group, which has access to the following:

/dev/gss crw-rw---- system gps
/dev/socket/qmux_gps drwxrws--- 1021 gps
/var/lib/lxc/android/rootfs/dev/gss crw-rw---- system gps
/var/lib/lxc/android/rootfs/socket/qmux_gps drwxrws--- 1021 gps

Can someone remove the phablet user from the gps groups or justify why this is needed and safe?
